Trick or Treat: Hiring Can Turn Out To Be Either
Hiring the right talent can be tricky. You want the candidate to fit into your organization s culture and you also want someone who can be effective on the job. Ideally, the person you hire will be a top performer and with your organization for a good period of time. The tricky part comes in when you consider all these variables and factor in how human beings make decisions. In his best-selling book, Blink, Malcolm Gladwell discusses how people are wired to make decisions and often make them in the blink of an eye. Turns out we can collect too much data and suffer from analysis paralysis. In learning to survive, humans have adapted themselves to look at a more limited number of factors so that we can act more swiftly. If we are skilled at knowing the best variables to select for, we can do well in hiring. If we loo

Public Relations Expert Shares 3 Tips for Mainstream Media Exposure on the Mod Chronicles
San Diego, CA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 10/07/2014 -- In the inaugural post of their new guest blogger series Mod Chronicles, the team at Mod Girl Marketing releases an article focusing on mainstream media exposure. The post, written by public relations manager Loolwa Khazzoom, gives businesses 3 tips for getting covered by mainstream media. Khazzoom writes that any business owner, author, performer, or entrepreneur should be seeking placement in mainstream media. Being picked up by a national outlet gives a business or brand more credibility than advertising—anyone with money can buy an ad placement, but a brand needs to have something special to be featured in that media outlet. Brands should also know that mainstream media is formulaic, and once a brand cracks the code, it’s only a matter of time before the story gets picked up. By doing some detective work and strategic pitching, finding an outlet to tell the story becomes simpler. Along with their formulaic nature, these mainstream

Three Things to Know About Getting Placed in Mainstream Media
Whether you are a business owner, author, performer, or any other brand of entrepreneur, here are three things you need to know about getting placed in mainstream media: 1. It’s better and cheaper than advertising. Anyone with money can place an ad in a newspaper or magazine. Only the cool cats, however, can get featured in a newspaper or magazine. For this reason, taking out an ad does nothing to promote your credibility or je ne sais quoi. Nobody is going to pay that much attention to you babbling on about how amazing you are. They are, however, going to take notice of someone else singing your praises. For this reason, the more prominent the media outlet featuring you, the more your “stock” will go up in people’s eyes. It’s third party validation in action. Here’s the especially awesome thing about it all: While advertising in mainstream media can easily cost anywhere from a few thousand to a few hundred thousand dollars, depending on the outlet, getting featured in m

Marketing Experts Post Tips on How to Use Yelp for Your Home Improvement Business
San Diego, CA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 09/05/2014 -- The recent changes to Google’s search algorithm (the Pigeon update) has given review sites like Yelp a huge boost in rankings. For businesses, this means that when an individual searches for a term related to your business, there’s a good chance the top page results will include a review site. Empathy: A Key Skill for Effective Leadership
What makes leaders afraid? People usually become leaders because they enjoy taking control of things. It’s this very need to control that often blocks a leader from learning how to show empathy. “If I show empathy to this employee, they’ll think I’m agreeing with them,” is often the retort I hear. One CEO stated that he “didn’t want to open ‘Pandora’s box’ and have employees waste time venting.” In my experience coaching executives, their lack of empathy usually surfaces as an issue when they participate in a 360 input survey. I usually conduct a 360 at the beginning of a coaching assignment and the one I frequently use assesses dimensions of emotional intelligence, one of which is empathy. A recent study by talent acquisition firm Lee Hecht Harrison of over 600 employees supports lack of empathy as a problem in the workplace. Fifty eight percent of managers were found to fail at displaying the right level of understanding and empathy toward their direct reports.

8 Ways To Spice Up Your Email Marketing – Tips and Tricks
Many a marketer has gotten burned out on email marketing. We set up a certain newsletter template with the same sections, fonts and colors to make life easier. But over time, it starts to feel like plugging data into a formula, rather than creating something that is meaningful or interesting to others. Remember, variety is the spice of life! Newsletters don t have to be so rigid and drab. Here are 8 ways to inject some life into the process. 1. Change the frequency. Weekly newsletters are a bit much, even if you have a killer brand like Disney or Apple. Just because you eat, sleep and breathe the company 24/7 doesn t mean your customers do or have to. A friendly reminder once a month is plenty. Some businesses even find that quarterly newsletters spark better engagement and lower unsubscribe rates. Whatever you decide, be sure to make your marketing frequency predictable for consumers. You can use aWeber to set up an email publishing schedule that works for your business. 2. Wow wi
